The Ultimate Fighter 8.04 Recap
Another episode, another alcohol induced event of TUF drama unfolds. The fighters were allowed to watch UFC 84 and during the even Junie Browning and Shane Nelson put down about three bottles of wine and a bunch of shots of tequila. Junie and Shane start playing around, talking trash to Team Nogueira and it escalates to Junie throwing a glass at Kyle Kingsbury and cutting him on his left forearm.
From there it just got more stupid. Nelson starts talking trash to Roli Delgado and Efrain Escudero and even pushes both fighters. More drama ensues outside by the pool after Nelson and Browning start throwing chairs and anything else that’s not affixed to the floor, into the pool. I don’t know what it is with drunk people throwing things into polls, but it started to piss off the rest of the fighters and they came outside to confront them. Junie taunts Krzysztof, trying to get Krzysztof to hit him but Krzysztof restrains himself. More drama ensues, but finally everyone retreats inside the house and goes to bed.
The next day, Dana White heads over to the house after viewing the tapes from the night before and says that Junie is a punk and possibly a drunk and that he doesn’t know what he’s going to do as far as kicking him off the show or not. He gets in the house and tells them to rally the guys. Junie is outside by himself shooting some hoops on the basketball court. Dana tells them that he allows them to have alcohol because they are a bunch of grown men, but Junie and Shane’s were acting retarded. Long story short, Dana tells Shane that he’ll be fighting Efrain in the next fight and that he’s not kicking anyone off tonight. Shane and Junie are both surprised and grateful.
The next day the fight is chosen as Dana stated and later they show Junie and Efrain talking about who may or may not win the fight. Junie is getting upset with Efrain as if he wants to fight him right there and then in the house. It’s almost as if Junie hasn’t learned a thing from the previous altercation. But it get even more bizarre.
Both fighters make weight and and the fight is on 24 hours after that. The fight starts off slow while Shane try to keep his distance with strikes. A lot of close cinches and finally Efrain gets the take down over Shane with the help of some good knee strikes. Not a whole lot happens on the ground, mostly Efrain trying to work some ground and pound and Shane defending it fairly well. Round 1 ends.
Round two starts about the same way as round 1. Efrain get’s a take down but Shane works one in there as well. Unfortunately for Nelson, he get’s himself stuck in a leg triangle choke and is forced to tap. Efrain wins with 28 seconds left in the round. Efrain would have won by decision if the round had ended with now submission or knock out.
As Team Nogueiro comes in the cage to congratulate, Junie is outside and pissed that Efrain won, yelling “That’s what the UFC needs, another boring-ass wrestler” Efrain says something inaudible back to Junie and and enraged Browning jumps the fence but is restrained.
I don’t think browning will be kicked off, even after this blunder, but the previews show and obviously upset Frank Mir telling Junie that this time he made Mir look like stupid. All I have to say is that there’s always one crazy one and this year it’s Junie Browning. I had high hopes for Browning and I still do as a fighter, but the dudes got to get control of himself and his temper. Another good episode of probably the best “Reality” show on TV.
