So the teams are picked for Team Nogueira and Team Mir. They stand as follows:

Team Mir                               Team Nogueira

Krzysztof Soszynski 205            Ryan Bader 205
Vinny Magalhaes 205                Shane Primm 205
Elliot Marshall 205                    Kyle Kingsbury 205
Tom Lawlor 205                       Jules Bruchez 205
Junie Browning 155                  Phillipe Nover 155
Shane Nelson 155                    Efrain Escudero 155
Dave Kaplan 155                     John Polakowski 155
George Roop 155                     Roli Delgado 155

You may recall last week, Karn Gregoryan won over Elliot Marshall by split decision but Dana let him stay because Antwain Britt broke his hand. Karn Gregoryan suffered a broken nose during his match with Marshall and was replaced by Kyle Kingsbury, who was defeated by Ryan Bader during the first rounds.

Lightweight Brian McLaughlin also broke his nose in his win over Brandon Garner. Garner lost due to disqualification when he unintentionally kneed McLaughlin in the head while he was down. McLaughlin was replaced by Roli Delgado, who lost by decision to George Roop.

A broken nose will get you placed on a 180 day suspension list from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The coaches introduce their assistants: Frank Mir chose Robert Drysdale and Ken Hahn. Nogueira brought in Daniel Valverde and Al “Stankie” Stankiewicz.

Frank Mir won the coin toss and decided to take first pick when choosing teams, so Nogueira got to pick the first fight. He chose team member Ryan Bader (7-0) to take on Team Mir’s Tom Lawlor (4-1-1). Both fighters made weight with no problem.

During team Nogueira’s training session, Krzysztof Soszynski led team Mir in to the first round of team pranks by shrink wrapping Team Nogueira’s underwear together and Ryan Bader’s stuff was wrapped up around his bed. Most of the fighters were good sports about it. Antonio Nogueira and assistants visited his team the night before the fight for a big dinner and there seems to be quite a bit of comradery amongst the team members.

On to the fight. Both fighters came out looking strong but Bader just seemed to have more a presence in the ring. Though Lawlor did his best to defend most of Baders attacks, he was caught on his back with a vicious overhand right from Bader that caught him on the jaw and put him out in the first round. Bader shows a lot of potential. It’s going to be interesting to see where the light-heavyweight matches go this season. Bader’s win starts Norgueira’s team off with a 1-0 victory and they retain control of picking the next fight.

The previews show the teams celebrating with the usual mass consumption of alcohol and Junie Browning acting like a fool and “Terrorizing” the other fighters. Junie looks to be a good fighter but how long will he stay in the house behaving the way they show him during previews. Other instigation take place during the preview as well.

Junie Browning has a weekly blog going on over at UFC.com, if you want to check that out.
