The Ultimate Fighter 8.02 Recap

by Scott on September 25th, 2008

tuf-season-8.jpgThe next 16 fighters went at it last night for their spot in the house on The Ultimate Fighter Season 8. Let me tell you that this is a wild bunch. From the previews they showed, there is going to be some drama going on in the house this year. I have nothing against alcohol. God know’s I drink my share every now and then, but I think Dana should rethink allowing them to have so much booze in the house. It’s kind of odd that these guys are training for a chance to win a UFC contract, but they throw so much beer and liquor down their throats. I mean, if i was training for the chance at a fat fighting contract, I would be giving it my 110% and not doing anything to jeopardize my chances. With that said, let me get to the recap.

The first fight between UK’s Wesley Murch and San Luis Obispo’s John Polakowski started out good. A lot of clinching and some good kicks thrown. Towards the end of the first round, Murch throws a kick to Polakowsi’s  left leg. When the round ends Murch is on the canvas holding his right shin in pain. He tries to push through the pain in the second round but falls to the ground again holding his shin. The ref calls the match and Polakowski wins. It’s hard to say who would have won this match had Murch not been injured. Polakowsi’s an interesting character.

The next three rounds all saw wins by rear naked choke all in the first rounds. Light-heavyweight Shane Prim won over Sean O’Connell, Lightweight Efrain Escudero choked out Ido Pariente and Light heavyweight Tom Lawlor beat Ryan Lopez.

Lightweight George Roop got out of some tight situations on the ground in his match against Roli Delgado and won by decision after two rounds.

Ryan Bader beat Kyle Kingsbury with an arm triangle. Ryan is a two-time all state Arizona wrestler and it showed. This dude has some ground skills.

In the final match, Light-Heavyweight Eliot Marshall took on Karn Grigoryan. This match went in to sudden death overtime with the win by split decision going to Karn Grigoryan. Dana, the coaches and Marshall were all very surprised by this decision. Fortunately for Eliot Marshal he would be moving in to the house due last episode’s Antwain Britt breaking his hand.

Below are the 16 final fighters. Looks to be an interesting season. Next week will get to see who’s picked for who’s team. The training and chaos begin.
