Randy Orton Asks for a Few Weeks Off

by Michael Sedor on May 5th, 2008

Yesterday, Dave Metzler’s Wrestler Observer reported that the Legend Killer Randy Orton has requested a few weeks leave from house shows and an upcoming WWE tour to Mexico presumably to spend more time with his wife. Orton’s wife is expecting a child this summer.

Cowboy Bob’s son cited burnout as the reason for his request. Orton’s absence should not affect his cable TV and pay-per-view appearances. We’ll still be able to see him every week.

Nevertheless it surely means that the third-generation wrestler will not be re-claiming the WWE title anytime soon. I’m in the distinct minority but I really enjoy Orton’s character and heel persona and wish he hadn’t lost the championship belt. I was pulling for him last Monday to regain the title from Triple H and, for a second, believed during their epic, never-ending battle that it was going to happen. Alas, it was not to be. Damn you William Regal! Damn you! Imagine me angrily shaking my fist. Because I am!

In case you might last Monday Night’s RAW here’s the last ten minutes or so of the Orton-Triple H battle including the now infamous ending:

    Yes…yes you are. *lol*

I don’t know if I should call him the eternal chinlock or the human sominex.

    That’s funny.

I like him because he really seems to be a complete jerk. He trashes hotels, the military court martialed him, he preens endlessly, he’s been charged with sexual harassment, he’s surely been helped by his family connections and I’m sure there’s more.

That’s a proper wrestling villain. It’s just too bad he’s so boring.

Maybe back in the days of Ken Petera trashing a Burger King it was but in the post Chris Benoit era it really isn’t IMO. But yeah, the guy is like watching grass grow.

I never realized Ken Patera’s brother was the first head coach of the Seahawks.
