Edge Forced to Give Up Title, Great Khali Becomes New Heavyweight Champion
According to WWE.com Edge was forced to relinquish his title during tonight’s SmackDown tapings. The situation arose due to a kayfabe injury to the wrestler. Although nothing is definitive WWE.com says that Edge has has a torn pectoral muscle and will require surgery. He will reportedly be out for 4 months.
After stripping Edge of the title, SmackDown GM Teddy Long ordered a 20-man battle royale. The Great Khali won the match to win the World Heavyweight Title.
The card for The Great American Bash will now include a title match between Khali and either Batista or Kane. Khali was to face Batista on the PPV while Kane was supposed to duel Edge for the title. Who participates in the match hinges on who wins a top contenders matchup between Kane and Batista tonight during the SmackDown tapings. The result of the match have not yet been released.
The title stripping, Great Khali’s win, and the top contenders matchup will all be shown this Friday on SmackDown.
