SmackDown: Batista Wins, Will Face Edge at One Night Stand

by Kris on May 26th, 2007

  • Paul London & Brian Kendrick def. William Regal & Dave Taylor (DQ)
  • Matt Hardy def. The Miz
  • Jimmy Wang Yang def. Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guererro (Non-title)
  • Batista def. Mark Henry, Finlay and Kane (No.1 Contender’s Match)

Decent SmackDown but I would have liked to see a few more matches. I don’t see how a 2 hour SmackDown has the the same number of matches as ECW but that is beside the point.

The Batista win was far from surprising given that WWE only has a few weeks to promote the match before One Night Stand and building off of an established feud is much easier given the time constraints. Having it in a cage match is a great touch, I just hope it is better than their quick Judgment Day match which fell flat from the start.

Also, where has the cruiserweight division gone. There has been hardly any action at all and it has been left off the last several PPVs. I think the WWE needs to make up its mind and either push it back up again (and put some title matches on SmackDown or get rid of it all together.

In other news from the episode, Vickie Guerrero was named assistant GM and will probably get quite a bit of air time now but I pray that I am wrong. MVP also celebrated on the episode but was chased off by an angered Chris Benoit.

So far for next week we know we will be seeing Deuce & Domino put their titles on the line in a triple threat match against Paul London & Brian Kendrick and William Regal & Dave Taylor. Also it is alluded that Edge/Batista will be in preparation matches for their One Night Stand match and MVP will answer Benoit’s attack. Finally, Vickie Guerrero will be on the episode to debut as the assistant GM.
