Shawn Michaels Wins on Confusing Raw

by Kris on April 24th, 2007

  • Shane McMahon, Umaga & Mr. McMahon def. Robbie Brookside (3-on-1 No-Disqualification Handicap Match)
  • Trevor Murdoch def. Matt Hardy
  • Women’s Champion Melina def. Maria (non-title)
  • The Great Khali def. Carlito
  • Shawn Michaels def. WWE Champion John Cena (non-title)

Last night’s Raw was so confusing. This past week we learned that Shawn Michaels and John Cena would be facing off in a “Wrestlemania rematch”. Given they were fighting for the title at Wrestlemania is assumed (like most fans?) that their Raw match too would be for the title. After watching the main event for the final hour of Raw I realized that it was non-title (huh?). I thought it was just in poor taste to tout it as a WM rematch and have Michaels win only to have it be non-title in the end.

Also, I caught the spoilers before the episode aired and the report said WWE aired a graphics package of Edge vs. Randy Orton on Raw on accident since Orton is no longer in Europe. I assumed, incorrectly, that they’d cut it from the US playing but not only did they show it they actively promoted the match in a backstage clip. The WWE didn’t address it at all on the broadcast which seemed odd but the Orton situation has caused all sorts of problems.

It appears Orton will indeed be staying on the Backlash fatal-4 way card for now as it was continously announced as such. We learned of no new Raw matches which means the final 2-3 matches will be coming from ECW and SmackDown.
