‘Taker Gets Last Laugh on SmackDown
First SmackDown after Wrestlemania 23 and we saw another wrestler enter the fray for Undertaker’s new Heavyweight Title. Here are the results with commentary to follow:
- Matt Hardy def. King Booker
- Mr. Kennedy def. Jeff Hardy
- United States Champion Chris Benoit def. The Miz (Non-title)
- Kane def. Dave Taylor
- WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick def. Gregory Helms & Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero (Non-title)
Pretty average SmackDown in my book with Kennedy doing the typical Mr. Money in the Bank winner’s speech. Nothing really stood out to me except in the last 10 minutes. It started with Undertaker in the ring ready to deliver a message to WWW Nation but before he got a single word out Batista’s music hits and the former champ comes to the ring.
After a stare down Batista delivers the “shocker” that everyone was expecting…that Batista wanted a rematch. That’s it. Batista leaves the ring and the show is…King Booker comes and attacks Taker from behind but the situation quickly reverses with the Champ getting the upperhand knocking Booker out of the ring.
Undertaker clears the announcers table and sets him up on the table and tries to do a Tombstone Piledriver but the table doesn’t break. Point still taken. I was mildly surprised to see Booker thrown into the title mix so quick and even though he was quickly dispatched there is still a possibility that this is the start a new feud for Undertaker.
