TNA iMPACT! Recap

by Kris on January 26th, 2007

This week TNA iMPACT! was shifted up to Wednesday to accommodate UFC Fight Night 8 both on Spike TV. The episode started strong with Sting leaving “city hall” after having learned Abyss’ secret under the threat that he would announce it later on the show.

Next we cut to Samoa Joe who enters the ring to discuss just why he helped Kurt Angle last week. Turns out Joe wants to face Angle for the NWA Championship and that he is going to be the special enforcer for Angle’s title match against Christian Cage at the Against All Odds PPV. Kurt Angle then enters the ring to tell Joe not to get involved in the title match. Cage and Tomko then enter to basically tell Angle that Joe may or may not be his informant. Angle believes Joe is and proceeds to attack the wrestler.

Next twist on the show was pretty decent too. The segment opens with the Raven-led Serotonin in Jim Cornette’s office. Cornette proceeds to tell Raven that he needs to wrestle in TNA and that he will face Rhino at that nights show. Rhino tears Serotonin members apart one by one as they come at him until mask clad Raven enters with a kendo stick and hits Rhino. Raven demasks and is actually AJ Styles. Styles really sold the attack after breaking the stick over Rhino with another hit and then retrieving a chair to continue the attack.

Non-title four way match was up next between Chris Sabin, Jerry Lynn, Senshi, and Austin Starr. Jerry Lynn got the pin on champ Chris Sabin after landing a sunset flip.

Next, Sting enters the ring to reveal Abyss’ secret. Sting says he knows he will be beat to the mat if he tells the secret but he does so anyway revealing Abyss shot a man in the back. The man, who lived, turned out to be his father. As predicted Abyss comes to the ring to take Sting out and the fight moves to backstage where James Mitchell is waiting to finish Sting off.

Main event of the night was Christopher Daniels against Christian Cage. Daniels appeared to be headed towards victory when he locked the Koji Clutch on Cage. Tomko and Samoa Joe entered the ring to the dismay of Daniels who broke his hold on Cage only to get a low blow from the NWA champ. Cage got the pin and the win. Angle came to ringside after the match ended and stared Joe down as it went off air.

One of the better TNA’s I’ve watched in a while.
