Nate “The Great” Marquardt has been a professional MMA fighter since 1999. Marquardt fought in many different organizations and championships before moving to Japan’s Pancrase Champion. Despite losing his first bout in the new organization he went on to be a seven time Middleweight King.

In his UFC debut Nate beat veteran Ivan Salaverry at the original UFC Fight Night in August 2005. The fight was highly controverial as Marquardt tested positive in a post-fight drug test only to be cleared by a follow up test. A suspension was filed against the fighter preventing him from fighting until it was lifted in January of 2006.

Nate returned to the octagon in March of 2006 at UFC 58: USA vs. Canada. He triumphed in his return with a unanimous decision victory over Joe Doerksen. After the fight Nate reiterated his commitment to the UFC and stated his intentions of vying for the middleweight title in the future.

His third fight in the UFC was as part of the undercard of Ortiz v. Shamrock 3. Nate too won this bout taking out late replacement Crafton Wallace with a rear naked choke in the second round.
Nate is great on the ground and a good striker. Throughout his career he has been good at getting submissions. More than half of his wins have come from submissions while 4 have come from (T)KOs and 6 from decisions. 2 of his losses have come from submissions while 4 came from decisions.
