Undertaker Falls Short Again
Undertaker has fallen short yet again at the hands of Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy came to the ring touting his victory in the Beat the Clock Sprint on SmackDown over the past two weeks. If you remember Kennedy would not be in the position he is had he not interfered in Undertakers match causing him to fall just short of Kennedy’s mark.
Although the interference wasn’t against the rules Theodore Long gave Undertaker another shot at earning a title shot. If Undertaker won he would also compete in the title match at Royal Rumble under triple threat rules. If he loses his match Kennedy will take on Batista one-on-one at the PPV.
Great twist by WWE getting Undertaker involved. He has been around wrestling for so long and is such a fan favorite it is hard to resist the temtation of getting him some main event status every once in a while. Batista sat ringside during the match doing commentary but Kennedy took advantage of the vulnerable champion by landing a cheap shot on the superstar. Batista’s answer: a spear to Kennedy. Bam, match over Kennedy wins via DQ. Unless something changes next week it will be Kennedy against Batista one-on-one for the title.
In other matches Chris Benoit made Chavo Guerrero tap out to the sharpshooter to retain the title. Matt Hardy beat Joey Mercury, who was wearing a mask to “protect” his face which was injured accidentally by hardy and Armageddon. Johnny Nitro came out after the partner Mercury’s loss to beat up Matt Hardy.
Grease-inspired tag team Deuce and Domino were introduced to SmackDown as was their accompanying partner Cherry. Gag me now! Definately not liking this new gimmick. What does everyone else think about this new team?
Paul London, Brian Kendrick, and Vito took on Dave Taylor, William Regal, and MVP in a 6-man tag team match. The London-Kendrick-Vito team lost the match when MVP caught Kendrick and got the three count for the win. The Miz lost to Kane in a singles match after Kane got the chokeslam.
Next weeks SmackDown will feature a 6-man over-the-top challenge as sort of a warm up to the Royal Rumble. Not sure if there is anything riding on this but I would expect something to be announced about it during next weeks show. The wrestlers in the match are Kane, MVP, Chris Benoit, The Miz, King Booker, and Finlay.
