UFC Fight Night 8 Profile: Ed Herman

by Kris on January 19th, 2007

Ed HermanBorn: Vancouver, Washington
Fighting out of: Portland, Oregon
Age: 26
Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 185 pounds
MMA Record: 13-4-0 (0-2 UFC)

Ed “Short Fuse” Herman became known in the UFC after his appearance on the third season of the Ultimate Fighter. Herman, who trained under Ken Shamrock, lost in the finals of the show to Kendall Grove. On the show he also beat Danny Abaddi in a preliminary round and Rory Singer in the semifinals both by submission. His loss in the finals came via unanimous decision.

Even with the loss Herman signed a contract with the UFC after UFC president Dana White was impressed with his performance on the show. Herman’s second UFC match occured at Ortiz v. Shamrock 3: The Final Chapter. He also lost this bout when he tapped out to Jason McDonald.

UFC lists Ed’s record as 13-4-0 while Sherdog records it as 10-5-0. Most fighters have a small discrepency but this one is rather large, not really sure where each got their information but they are quite different. Anyways, Herman is a part of Team Quest and is also considered to be aggressive with the ground and pound. It should be an interesting match at Fight Night 8 as both fighters will be looking to take one another to the ground.

60% of his wins have come from submission while 30% have come from (T)KO with just 1 win via decision. His main weakness is his submission defense which could use some improvement with 4 of his losses resulting from tapping out. Look for Herman to try to take the match to the ground so he can employ his ground and pound technique as he seeks his first UFC win.

[…] Burkman, like Ed Herman, is a member of Team Quest. The People’s Warrior won his first UFC bout on the Ultimate Fighter 2 finale by knocking out Sammy Morgan. Burkman followed the win up with another triumph, this time at Fight Night 3 when he made Drew Fickett tap. Next he fell to Jon Fitch at Fight Night 4 via submission before recovering and getting the win against Josh Neer at UFC 61 with a unanimous decision. […]
