TNA Recap

by Kris on January 19th, 2007

Last night’s TNA opened with Sting beating James Mitchell and then proceeding to stuff him into the trunk of his car before leaving. Next up was Team 3D facing LAX in a rematch for the tag titles. Before the match started Brother Ray and Brother Devon warned Runt not to get involved in the match because, if you remember, his interference cost them the match and Final Resolution this past weekend.

Well Team 3D had the early advantage in the match but began to lag when Runt came to ringside and Ray had to get him out before he got involved. The Spanish announcer then distracted the referee and Hernandez landed the Flapjack on Ray to retain their titles. Not a bad match for TNA. I really liked the involvement of the Spanish announcement that was an unexpected but welcomed twist. I would like to see LAX get in a different rivalry or have a title change hands at the next PPV.

Next in the ring is Christian Cage who is dissing Kurt Angle and stating that he has a “consultant” to help him get into Angle’s head. The announcement draws Angle to the ring and, after Cage refuses to give the name of his consultant, causes the Olympic champ to give the current champ a German suplex. Glad to see they are finally getting a Kurt/Cage rivalry going.

Next TNA shows Jame Mitchell lying, blood in the prison where he has been keeping Abyss. String tries to get Mitchell to tell him about Abyss’ pass but all he gets is that Abyss was kept there for 6 years. I really, really don’t like the Abyss secret storyline. I thought wrestling was going away from fantasy for a more realistic storyline. I mean this whole thing reaks of the Kane story from when See No Evil was being released and his big secret was his family died in a fire. If this story is as lame and poorly responded to as the Kane one was Abyss may have some problems.

Lance Hoyt and James Storm was up next and Hoyt was dominating the match until Dale Torborg and A.J. Pierzynski got involved with A.J. hitting him with the chair. A bunch of after match activities occured until Petey Williams gets a big kick from Storm.

The main event of AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle. Tomko, Cage’s assistant, came to ringside trying to attack Angle with a chair only to miss. The Olympic champ took advantage of the chair by Olympic Powerslamming Styles onto the chair and getting the pin. Tomko, AJ, and Christian Cage all attack Angle in the ring until Rhino enters and chases AJ off. Cage is too ran out of the arena by Samoa Joe only to ask Angle whether he knows who the informant is. Not sure where this storyline is going but it sure has a good start. This is shaping up to be one of the better stories TNA has had recently.

TNA wrapped up with Sting asking Abyss about his secret only to have Abyss refuse to tell Sting anything. Sting leaves and thats a wrap on this weeks episode.
