Abyss Sides Against Sting

by Kris on January 12th, 2007

Well last night’s TNA iMPACT was one of the better ones I’ve seen mostly because it was the last one before the Final Resolution PPV this Sunday. Well at ringside there was a cage set up and no one knew who it was ‘reserved’ for. Also at the opening of the show Kurt Angle is shown talking to Jim Cornette who says he wants Angle to help him because he has a say in who gets a chance for the NWA title.

Angle’s match opened the show when he took on  Maverick Matt from TNA’s newest tag team Serotonin. Angle made Matt tap out to the Ankle Lock to finish the match and even resisted attempts to interfere by his fellow Serotonin members Johnny Devine and Kazarian.

After a short backstage piece with Samoa Joe there was a 6-man tag match. The teams were James Storm, Chris Sabin, and AJ Styles taking on Petey Williams, Christopher Daniels, and Rhino. Former partners Styles and Daniels faced off in the ring with AJ rolling Daniels up for the pin. Not a bad match (what I saw of it, not so interested in TNA Tag matches) but this one wasn’t completely intolerable.

The Paparazzi Championship Series wrapped up on last nights iMPACT with Alex Shelley and Austin Starr tied for the lead. Kevin Nash, who is running the PCS, said that Shelley and Starr would be facing off this weekend at No Resolution in a 10 minute timed match.

Throughout the whole thing the LAX/Team 3D match this weekend was being hyped pretty much nonstop but not to worry the main event is in sight.

The main event pitted Abyss against Tomko, Christian Cage’s ally. Before the match began Jim Cornette told Cage that he had to go in the cage or he wouldn’t be his title shot on Sunday. Angle came out to put Cage into the, well, cage and Abyss and Tomko then proceded to battle back and forth until Joe came out and attacked Angle. Kurt had the keys but dropped them near the cage allowing Christian to escape.

After getting out Cage entered the ring hitting Abyss with a steel chair leading to the match being stopped. The lights then went out and Sting appeared to assist Abyss. After Sting helped out with his signature baseball bat he and Abyss were left in the ring to celebrate, or so we though. Abyss put the Shock Treatment on Sting showing he sided with James Mitchell. Interesting twist going into the PPV this Sunday but it was kind of necessary to make the main event interesting.
