WWE on The Today Show

by Kris on December 19th, 2006

John Cena, the current WWE Champion, and Torrie Wilson made an appearance on the Today show this morning collecting gifts from fans for Today’s toy drive and discussing WWE’s Tribute to the Troops.

Cena told Today hosts David Gregory and Campbell Brown, “As you can see with the toy drive, everybody’s in a giving mood. We want to invite everybody to WWE’s Tribute to the Troops on Christmas day, Dec. 25, at 9 p.m. on the USA network, to give some thanks.” He continued, “WWE went over to Baghdad, Iraq. We spent a week with the soldiers over there. The very last day we set up shop, we set up a ring and put on a live performance for all the men and women who defend our country.”

Cena also discussed his lack of fear over the trip, the high moral of the troops, and how safe he felt under their care and protection in the volatile country.

According to the WWE Champ Gen. George Casey, Commander of Multi-National Force-Iraq will make an appearance on USA Network Christmas night on the Tribute to the Troops special at 9 o’clock p.m. eastern time.

2 opinions for WWE on The Today Show

I’m trying to find out if the WWE belongs to GE just like virtually everything else on the Today Show (which owns NBC and, therefore, the program). I hate to admit it, I love the show, but it has evolved into little more than a long infomercial.

Kevin, WWE is its own independent company and is not owned by GE. This is evidenced by a couple things. First, WWE is a company that is traded on the stock market and two, it has switched TV stations in the past. Hope that helps.
