Study links Wrestling to Teen Violence
In case you guys didn’t know, there was a study recently that links wrestling to teen violence. The study was released by the Wake Forest University School of Medicine cites a link between watching wrestling and violent teen behavior. According to the study, teens who watch pro wrestling are more likely to fight with dating partners and exhibit other violent tendencies. Wrestling viewership can also be linked to alcohol and drug use.
What a hoot!
I, personally, am skeptical when it comes to these so-called studies that are coming out. One of the most recent studies I heard is that there are more people who know the names of the three stooges than the names of the three branches of government. I mean who would use that information? Would that help me in any way in my daily life?
No.
You can argue that this study may alert parents to disallow their children from watch wrestling. But I have a better idea. Why don’t they ban alcohol and drugs all together? That would make life much easier right? Don’t just stop with wrestling, ban the whole television industry.
Power to the people!
The point I’m trying to make is that although wrestling is sometimes violent, you can’t point your finger on wrestling alone as the culprit. There are other factors. Maybe his dad is a violent guy. Maybe he had a bad day at school and someone sucker punched him in the gut. Or maybe the guy is just an ass.
The WWE already has responded to the study by saying, “There are a lot of good studies out there, but unfortunately, I think this study has a lot of flaws.”
My question is how can we know which studies are good and which ones are flawed?
