SummerSlam 2006
With SummerSlam just around the corner, here are some thoughts heading into the latest WWE pay-per-view:
- just like with the Great American Bash, our local cable company won’t be releasing SummerSlam on cable TV. Instead, it will show SummerSlam on theatres. I’m guessing that GAB was such a success that they want to earn MORE money from other WWE’s pay-per-views. So, kiss your “free” pay-per-views goodbye.
- the “Last Man Standing” match between Undertaker and Khali will happen in SmackDown instead of SummerSlam. I’m guessing that it’s because the new plot between Chavo Guerrero and Rey Mysterio is more interesting to watch than the Big Giants’ match. Also it doesn’t help that the Punjabi Match didn’t live up to it’s hype, maybe because Khali didn’t show up, that left the fans wondering what the rules of the Punjabi Prison are instead of concentrating on the match.
- the rift between Rey Mysterio and Chavo just doesn’t feel right to me. It’s like when they tried to place a grudge between Rey and Eddie. We all know they’re friends so watching them slug it out is just weird. Hey, it’s just me. But Chavo is doing a good job being a heel.
- so here are the “official” line-up for SummerSlam:
1. WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena
2. World Heavyweight Champion King Booker vs. Batista
3. D-Generation X vs. The McMahons
4. Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton
5. Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair (”I Quit” Match)
6. Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero
