Villoria Conspiracy Theories
The disappointing loss of Brian Villoria caused somewhat of a controversy because of the way he lost the fight. Now, a lot of “conspiracy theories” and rumors have emerged as an “alternative” reason as to why he really lost his fight against Nino.
It was surprising to others that Villoria was very passive in this fight. He never really attacked. He wasn’t throwing his usual jabs and tentative in his punches. This also caused others to doubt as to what the problem with Villoria really was. Maybe it was his injured hand. Maybe it was his “bad night”, as he told in the post interview. Maybe it was because he didn’t take the fight seriously. Maybe he was he over-confident? Maybe he didn’t follow Freddie Roach’s instruction carefully? We don’t really know. But others have speculated that he “might” actually sold the fight.
The rumor was that someone betted against him and he “willingly” lost the fight in order to for that someone to win and give him some share of the profit for losing.
I really don’t believe this and he just lost to a better fighter than night. Even great athletes have their off night so who are we to judge as to what he was feeling that night. But as to say that game-fixing in sports doesn’t happen would be turning a blind eye. Sadly, it does. Just look at the scandal in soccer where some of the teams actually fixed games.
But this is a different situation. I’m sure Villoria gave it his best and in the end it wasn’t enough. Win or lose, we just have to support our Pinoy boxers. I’m sure he will bounce back.
