Shocking Loss of Villoria

by Ron on August 11th, 2006

Villoria staked his WBC light flyweight belt and was shockingly upset by Omar Nino, a virtual unknown, via unanimous decision at the Orleans Hotel-Casion in Vegas. Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Villoria (19-1, 12KOs) seemed reluctant to attack Nino Romero (24-2-1, 10KOs).

The disappointment was felt throughout the Philippines and abroad as Villoria lost.

On the bright side, a fellow Filipino, Diosdado Gabi scored a first round TKO against former WBA flyweight champion Mauricio Pastrana.

That was the lone bright spot for the Filipinos that night.
