The Whole Philippines Watching

by Ron on July 2nd, 2006

The streets were empty. No one was working. There were only a handful of people walking about. Time literally stood still in the whole Philippines while the Pacquiao fight was going on.

Everyone was glued to their own TV sets watching the fight. Either it was in the malls or in the comfort of their own homes; strangers where brought together by the Pacquiao-Larios fight watching it intently as it was going on.

The whole nation was watching.

The Filipinos abroad were also watching the fight as a group. From where I was watching, you can hear cheers and groans from the crowd as we watch Pacquiao landed and took some big shots.

It just shows how Filipinos love Pacquiao. Filipinos were all out to support the new hero of the country. Even the president lauded Pacquiao’s efforts in showing what the Filipinos can do to the world.

With all the troubles the Philippines is facing, Pacquiao offers a breath of fresh air and hope that if you work hard enough for your dreams, it might come true.

Hard work. Solidarity. Toughness. Never giving up. That’s what the Filipinos are made of.
