The Rumble in the Jungle Pt. 2

by Ron on June 27th, 2006

As Sean pointed out, this IS news. I guess I was just caught up with all the hoopla regarding the impending Pacquiao fight to not notice this.

Well, better late than never.

I remember watching the fight and aside from the great fight between him and George Foreman, all I can remember was how big Ali was in South Africa.

It seems unreal.

I don’t know how many times in history where you can say one man was this HUGE in a foreign country. In the movie Ali where Will Smith played Ali, you can see people running with him while he runs around the city. People flocking to the gym where he trains. You also see people chanting his name everywhere.

It’s just crazy.

The name “Rumble in the Jungle” certainly is a name fitting for their fight. It was the fight where Ali regained his title. Also worth mentioning is Ali’s strategy to taunt Foreman to throw a lot of punches in order to exhaust all his energy. Brilliant.

Now Ali’s daughter, Laila, is getting a shot to fight in Africa. Laila is the women’s WBC champion. Her record is 22-0 with 19 coming from KOs. She is scheduled to fight Ijeoma Egbunine, an Atlanta-based Nigerian with a 12-1 record.

Some of the proceeds will go to the Nelson Mandela Foundation which is also a good thing.

Get ready for “Rumble in the Jungle Part 2″
