ECW is Alive!

by Ron on June 19th, 2006

It’s alive.

I say that with a Doctor-Frankenstein-type of voice when he first saw his monster came to life. ECW or Extreme Championship Wrestling was supposed to be dead. It was done from all the turmoil it has gone through and the financial trouble it has faced. But when a door closes, you’re surely to find a window open.

And Vince McMahon grabbed the opportunity.

Vince McMahon bought the ECW franchise and it returned to WWE as a brand that would compliment Raw and Smackdown. Just like what he did to WCW, I think he is fond of buying out his rivals. I guess he wants to monopolize the whole wrestling industry.

I actually liked ECW more than WWE because ECW is the opposite of what the WWE is. It doesn’t have the lights and sounds like that of WWE or WCW (at that time). It doesn’t have fireworks. It doesn’t have all that promotion. It doesn’t have all that glitz and glamour.

It was really all about wrestling.

They were I think the first to show bloody hardcore matches which WWE only recently started introducing to its matches. Their matches reminded me of underground matches in which you came to enjoy the fight. Unlike WWE where there are a lot of gimmicks and storylines behind the matches, ECW offers something different. Sure it also had plots of its own but it was counter to what WWE was offering.

It was just cool.

I know we all had times when we went to one of those bars that have this amateur night types of gig where unknown bands play. It has that type of atmosphere to it. Also, remember the time when you discover this really cool unknown band and you really like their songs but when they suddenly become popular you don’t feel like listening to them anymore?

That is kinda what I feel.

I’m sure its all for the best. I’m just glad ECW is back. I’ve already watched one episode of ECW and almost all of its past wrestlers were there including RVD. Heck, they even put Kurt Angle in ECW. So this is supposed to be fun.

But I don’t think ECW will be the same again.

I don’t think so either but with guys like Mick Foley & Terry Funk (probably making appearances occasionally) you may get something very close to the old EC-DUB. I did see the PPV and I must admit I like it. My question is since Vince has allowed EC-DUB (thanks to the many fans) to be like it’s own entity again (because you know there are people who do believe Vince has nothing to do with this)…will some of the others like Raven, Kid Kash, Blue Meanie and others be allowed the opportunity to come back?

Once again Ron GREAT job. I have given you a plug on my video predictions.

Thanks Sean. That means a lot coming from you. I actually caught the PPV of ECW One night stand. It was just fun to relieve the memories.
