Sweet Science

by Ron on June 16th, 2006

I just found out that I have a more obsessed boxing friend, let’s just call him a fanatic, compared to the one I was referring to in my last post. He said that watching a couple of fights doesn’t make you an expert in boxing. You should devote time in studying the “science” (that’s what he calls it) behind boxing. He calls boxing a “sweet science.”

Woah. Deep.

But what really intrigued me is his enthusiasm to the whole sport of boxing. He gave me a lot of information about boxing that I didn’t know before. Believe it or not, I used to follow boxing. It was during the time of Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis. I also like watching past fights of Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, and Mike Tyson. The last fight I think of Roy Jones was against Antonio Tarver which he lost. That I think did it for me. Now I only watch the fights of Manny Pacquiao.

I like watching them because they are cocky fighters. Flashy fighters are really fun to watch. When they drop both hands and motion their opponent to try and hit them. It’s like saying, “C’mon, take your best shot. I can handle it.” That’s one of the things I look for in a fight. Take Manny Pacquiao for example. If you watch his fights closely, whenever he has just received a couple of hard blows from his opponent, expect him to punch his gloves together. It’s his way of saying that those punches didn’t hurt him at all. It’s a pretty sight I tell you.

So expect me to write something about the impending fight of Pacquiao and Larios this coming July 2 in Araneta Coliseum, Philippines. My friend told me that is the next big thing in boxing nowadays.

Hang on to your seats.

And why is it called “the sweet science”? I agree with your friend…=)…you gotta watch boxing more to see and figure it out yourself….

More power to your blog site! =)
