Jab and Grapple - Boxing and Wrestling News and Analysis

Little Helpers

by Ron on June 15th, 2006

I would like you all to think that I will be slaving away my afternoons in a small library huddled in a corner and pouring over dusty reference materials with sizes ranging from my 17″ monitor to a small matchbox and just absorbing anything and everything that has to do with boxing and wrestling so that I can blog about it.

Fat chance.

Don’t get me wrong. I love all sports. Even though the thought of me lounging around in a beach chair with a book about wrestling/boxing on one hand and a beer on the other crossed my mind, I don’t think this will happen anytime soon. Not that I don’t want to. It’s because I think I’ll be too lazy to bring a book to the beach.

You see I’m what you will call a casual fan of boxing and wrestling. Sure I’ve tried both sports at some point in my life but I’m not that into it like basketball or soccer.

This is where my friends will come in. The weird thing is I have two friends; one is obsessed with boxing, and the other with wrestling. Now I have a reason to talk to them.

That’s what friends are for right?

How do I know they’re obsessed? My one friend follows WWE like a religion. I’ve been to his house and lemme tell you that his room looks like a museum for WWE. He has tons of stuff that he has bought from eBay that dates back to the WWF days. Stuff like wrestling belts, toys, magazines, and bunch of other stuff that I don’t even know about. It’s really cool. I bet they cost a fortune now. If he’s gonna sell all that stuff he might have enough cash to buy a car. I’m dead serious.

My other friend likes boxing so much that he even plans to be one. Too bad that he isn’t built like a boxer. He looks more like a model. (I’m sucking up to him so that he’ll help me.) I remember this one time he called me up on my cell phone just to tell me that Manny Pacquiao won.

Me: Hello?
My Friend: Hey! Guess what? (He sounds really excited here…)
Me: You scored last night with a hot babe.
My Friend: No! Stop fooling around.
Me: You won the lottery?
My Friend: No! Haven’t you heard the news? Manny Pacquiao won!

I, of course, was watching the fight. But unfortunately our local channel has tons of advertising that the fight stretched out to a couple of hours because of all the ads in between rounds. I didn’t know that the fight ended already. My friend, on the other hand, went to see a private screening of the fight that you need to reserve and pay in advance to get it. See what I mean?

Now I have two little helpers that I can “consult” with to help me make this blog a little “legitimate”. They’ll also make me look like a genius. Not that I’m dumb. Oh well, maybe a little.

Go on, read my blogs. They have been certified by “experts” in their respective fields.

How ’bout jiu-jitsu? there’s quite a lot of serious jabbing and grappling in that thing too! haha it’d be fun if you watch them (live and on dvd’s!)… and interesting if you include here something bout it as well. :)
