Pacman ate Morales

by Sean on February 8th, 2006

Here was another fight I didn’t get a chance to see until after the actual air date. But trust me it was turly worth the watch.

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (40-3-2, 32 KO) vs. Eric Morales (48-3, 34 KO) was definately an exciting fight from beginning to end or shall I say stoppage. Morales had beat Pacquiao in their first meeting in which Pacquiao had said he could have won if it wasn’t for the fact he was not able to wear his favorite puncher’s gloves made by REYES and had better training conditions. This time everything was just the way Pacquiao wanted them to be.

In the early rounds Morales appeared to be well in control of things while Pacquiao had to do lots of moving to get in some punches. But what was surprising to me was when Pacquiao did get shots in they were power shots and as the rounds went on you could see a changed in Morales’ fight game. Morales face was a mess of welts and he had lumps on his forehead and head after taking the beating of his career.

Pacquaio landed a big punch in the second round, a left hand that sent Morales backwards and forced him to grab onto the top rope to stay up. Morales also appeared ready to go down at the end of the sixth round after a series of punches in the corner, but bounced off referee Kenny Bayless and stayed upright as the bell sounded to end the round.

As the fight went on Morales looked increasingly weary and complained that his legs hurt and his cornermen rubbed them. Now rubbing his legs did not help the situation because the tide turned in the sixth round. Morales was fading from all the body punches.

During the ninth round Pacquaio came out and kept the pressure on Morales, whose face was marked by the sheer volume of punches he took. Midway through the round, Pacquaio landed a huge left hand in the middle of a combination that put Morales on the canvas.

Morales stayed there with his arm over a ring rope before finally getting up at the count of nine. Pacquaio was then all over him, landing a flurry that put a defenseless Morales down and ended the fight. This was a fight that had the audience on thier feet from beginning to end also. Congrats to Pacquiao.

I hear there is going to be a #3 Pacquiao vs. Morales.
